During the West End premiere on Sunday, Sir Elton took to the stage and spoke in an emotional speech about not being able to watch the performance after losing sight – before being led off stage by beloved husband David Funrish, 62.

Speaking in London, the Rocketman singer thanked David for being his ‘rock’ during preparations for the show’s official opening on Sunday, saying: ‘It’s hard for me to see it, but I’d love to hear it .’
He recently admitted that he hasn’t been able to see out of his right eye for months, and that his left eye is “not the best” after a serious infection. It is not known whether the condition is temporary.
Speaking at The Dominion Theater, Sir Elton said in a clip shared with MailOnline: ‘And to my husband who has been my rock because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, my eyesight have lost. .
“So it’s hard for me to see it, but I like to hear it – and it sounded good tonight. Thank you for coming.’

Elton wrote: ‘Over the summer I suffered a serious eye infection which unfortunately leaves me with limited vision in one eye.
‘I am healing, but it is an extremely slow process and it will take some time for vision to return to the affected eye.
‘I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family who have looked after me so well over the past few weeks.’
Elton concluded: ‘I have spent the summer quietly recuperating at home, and I feel positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery so far.’
