Sir Elton John dismays fans by including Taron Egerton on list of high profile Glastonbury omissions

The stars seemed to be aligned on Sunday night as Taron Egerton watched Sir Elton John play his final UK show to thousands of adoring fans at Glastonbury.

But anyone expecting the actor to be brought on stage for a duet with the pop icon came away bitterly disappointed, not least because of Egerton’s critically acclaimed portrayal of Sir Elton in the musical biopic Rocket Man.

While the two-hour set featured numerous guest appearances, former collaborators Kiki Dee, Britney Spears and Dua Lipa were ditched in favor of lesser-known artists Jacob Lusk, Stephen Sanchez and Rina Sawayama.

Even Egerton, a fan favorite who previously performed with Sir Elton on his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road farewell tour, was left out that night – much to the dismay of onlookers.

One disappointed fan wrote on Twitter, “I was expecting Taron Egerton to join Elton to sing Rocket Man.”

A third wrote: “It seems everyone was waiting for Britney Spears to come out on Elton John’s set, but personally I was waiting for Taron Egerton!”

Another surprised fan commented, “You tell me Elton John Taron hasn’t even brought out Egerton, even though he’s IN GLASTONBURY.”

Fans of Britney Spears were also devastated after she failed to show up despite rumors that she would duet with Sir Elton.

Britney previously joined forces with Elton on their 2022 track Hold Me Closer, her first song since finishing conservatory at 13, and fans were convinced she would come to Worthy Farm to perform the single.

However, it was The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers who appeared to be singing the duet, as one of four special guests Elton had teased.

The other surprise guests were Jacob Lusk of Gabriels and The London Community Gospel Choir who Are You Ready For Love? performed; Stephen Sanchez who sang until I found you and Brit nominated singer Rina Sawayama, who performed Don’t Go Breaking My Heart instead of Kiki Dee.

Some viewers took to Twitter during the act and confessed that they only tuned in to watch Britney and that they had “wasted” time watching Elton’s show.

While a third wrote: “Listen I love Britney with all my heart but the idea that ‘she can’t show up with Elton to do Hold Me Closer at Glasto because she wouldn’t have had time to rehearse’ is so funny because rehearse What? It’s Britney she’d walk on, lip sync her verse, bop on the spot and go.”

Dua Lipa was conspicuously absent from the Glastonbury Pyramid Stage on Sunday night, missing the chance to duet her song with Sir Elton John.

The pop star, 27, failed to turn up to sing their hit Cold Heart, forcing Sir Elton to instruct the audience to sing her part of the song.

Despite the omissions, Sir Elton’s last performance of his final UK tour was hailed by fans as the ‘greatest Glastonbury headliner ever’ as he closed the show.
