Sir Elton John and Kevin Spacey enjoy dinner together in Nice restaurant as band serenade them with a rendition of Suspicious Minds weeks after singer gave evidence in the Hollywood star’s sex assault trial

Kevin Spacey partied with Sir Elton John on the Cote d’Azur after being acquitted of a series of sexual assaults on four men – and was serenaded over dinner by a band playing Suspicious Minds, it was revealed today.

The two-time Oscar-winning actor is rumored to be looking to leave the UK after his trial is over and enjoyed an evening with Sir Elton and his husband David Furnish at the exclusive La Petite Maison restaurant in Nice.

The celebrity couple were called as defense witnesses after a man claimed he almost crashed a car when he was groped by Spacey on his way to the musician’s prom. But jurors rejected his claims after the court heard that the American Beauty star was not present at Sir Elton’s party on the night of the alleged attack.

Spacey broke down when he was acquitted at the end of July and has now enjoyed a holiday with his friends in the south of France.

Band The Snugglers shared an Instagram video of them playing Elvis Presley’s 1968 hit to the stars, with Sir Elton singing along while Spacey sat to his left and grinned as he filmed the performance.

Elton and David’s two children, Zachary, 12, and Elijah, 10, sat at the table with their parents and friends, some of whom drank wine and Aperol shortbread.

The band wrote: ‘We had the chance to perform for those absolute legends: Sir Elton John and Kevin Spacey. In this clip Sir Elton sings along with us. Feeling blessed.’

Spacey collapsed when he was acquitted after his trial in late July.

When jurors entered the courtroom after 12 hours of deliberation to pronounce their verdict, the actor was seen shaking and holding a cup of water tightly in his hand.

As the forewoman delivered their verdicts, Spacey burst into tears, sobbing loudly as the bailiff stormed over to get him a tissue.

The verdict raises the prospect of the star soon returning to TV and cinema screens after being shunned by Hollywood for the past six years.

When he was cleared of criminal charges last month, Kevin Spacey celebrated with drinks at the Groucho Club and later dinner with theatrical titan Trevor Nunn.

However, it can be revealed that many of his colleagues who made Spacey the lion when he was artistic director of the Old Vic from 2004 to 2015 have since distanced themselves from the actor – who brushed off the sexual assault allegations by saying he was just a ‘big flirt’ – a statement accepted by the jury.

None of the figures in his London clique were willing to stand up for him in public.

And while he’s keeping an apartment in London, he’s rumored to be considering moving to Europe.

“Kevin has been cleared, but he is not going back to the lifestyle and connections he once had,” a friend told the Mail.

He’s been talking about leaving the UK for at least a year, most likely to Paris.

“They have a history of not caring too much about people’s private lives in France, but they do have a strong film culture,” my mole continues. “It would be a good place for him to start over – and he has plenty of friends in Paris.”

Johnny Depp’s riotous reception at the Cannes Film Festival in May has been cited as evidence of the different approach on the Continent.

Depp was convicted in British courts of assaulting his ex-wife Amber Heard – although a US jury found she defamed him when she spoke of domestic violence and as a result her allegations were untrue.

Also notable is that Roman Polanski, convicted of unlawful intercourse with a 13-year-old in 1977, will be attending the Venice Film Festival this month.

Croatian director Dominik Sedlar, whose father is a friend of Spacey, recently said he expects the actor to leave Hollywood: “Europe is more likely to be receptive.”

Spacey portrayed Croatian President Franjo Tudjman in Once Upon A Time In Croatia, filmed by Sedlar’s father Jakov and released last year.

In January, before the British trial, Sedlar Sr called Spacey “the best actors” and “absolutely innocent.” Spacey also appeared in The Man Who Drew God, for director Franco Nero. That was released in Italy in June, while the trial was underway in the UK.

Alistair Smith, editor of The Stage, thinks a return to British theater is ‘highly unlikely’.

The Old Vic independently investigated Spacey’s tenure after 20 unnamed people accused him of inappropriate behavior.

The theater said it could not verify the allegations, but admitted that Spacey’s status could have deterred junior staff or young actors from speaking out. It said it was “deeply appalled” by the allegations of “a range” of inappropriate behavior and is committed to creating a safe working environment for the future.

Smith added, “Those allegations have never been satisfactorily answered by Spacey. If not, I don’t see him working in the London theater anymore.’

In the Los Angeles Times last month, columnist Mary McNamara suggested that while Spacey has been cleared of criminal charges, he is still “cancelled.”

His defense rested on the argument that being promiscuous is not the same as being predatory. Which it definitely isn’t,” she wrote. But given the similarity of so many accusations against Spacey — crotch-grabbed, aggressively inappropriate comments — in this trial and in general, it’s hard not to wonder who exactly should be deciding what’s ‘promiscuous’ and what’s ‘predatory’. ‘ is.

It’s hard to imagine him reviving his career anytime soon, at least in the US. His fall was epic. . . it would take a solid group of A-list supporters to bring him back into the fold. So far they have not shown up.

“He won’t be doing much for a while, anyway — as a member of the Screen Actors Guild, he’s on strike. Until that is sorted out, we don’t have to think about him at all. And wouldn’t that be nice.’
