Sir Don Bradman’s iconic Baggy Green Australia cap sells for over $470,000 at auction
Sir Don Bradman’s iconic Baggy Green Australia cap has been sold at auction.
The legendary cricketer wore the 1947-48 cap with the piece of history on it is sold by Bonhams Tuesday at an auction event in Sydney for a price of $479,700 including buyer’s premiums.
The hat was estimated to fetch a value of around $390,000, but fell short of the huge amount paid in 2020 for Shane Warne’s Baggy Green, which sold for $1,007,500.
That sale marked a milestone for every piece of cricket memorabilia and was intended to raise money for bushfire relief.
Bradman, who played 52 Tests for Australia and scored 6,996 runs, donned the cap during Australia’s Test series against India, in which the Australian batsman averaged 178.75 across six Test innings.
That also included four centuries, while Bradman also scored his 100th Test ton.
It was also the last series Bradman had played on home soil.
