Sir David Jason makes shock admission about his Only Fools co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst’s Frasier reboot as he reveals he HASN’T watched it

Sir David Jason has shockingly admitted he didn’t see his Only Fools co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst in the Frasier reboot.

The actor, 83, who played the iconic Del Boy alongside Nicholas’ Rodney from 1981 to 2003, but has admitted he hasn’t yet tuned in to his old co-star, 62.

Frasier made a comeback on Paramount+ in October 2023, marking the return of Kelsey Grammer, 68, as the titular radio psychiatrist.

At the request of The times On his thoughts on Nicholas’ performance as drunken university professor Alan Cornwall in the series, Sir David said: “Winter evenings have us sitting in front of the fire and watching television.”

“I haven’t seen the reboot of Frasier yet with Nick Lyndhurst, my old Only Fools and Horses co-star, but I’m sure he would have done a great job.”

Sir David said it was a ‘privilege’ to star in Only Fools because he knows how much it means to TV viewers, and commented on his status as a ‘national treasure’.

He added: “Being part of Only Fools and Horses is a privilege. I know how much it meant to so many people.

“I hope I never take the title of ‘national treasure’ too seriously – I call myself the ‘leg end’, but it’s humbling that people see me that way.”

The Frasier reboot – itself a spin-off of Cheers – was highly anticipated by fans of the original show.

But actor David Hyde Pierce, 64, who played his brother Niles Crane in the show, turned down the chance to star in the reboot.

He told the LA Times: ‘I never wanted to go back. It’s not like I said, “Oh, I never want to do that again.”

‘I enjoyed every moment. It was that I wanted to do other things.”

Nicholas returned to the small screen just years after his son’s death for the reboot of the hit comedy series Frasier.

Still, it seems like the series has led to a whole new level of success for the actor, who has finally made it big in America.

Kelsey, who has been Dr. Frasier Cane is thrilled to have Nicholas on board and even gave the star the award of the best actor he has ever worked with.

Speak with Deadline he revealed: ‘Nick Lyndhurst. He is stealth warfare. He’s the sneakiest, most talented actor I’ve ever worked with.”

Nicholas plays Frasier’s best friend Alan Cornwall in the reboot of the famous American sitcom and there is already talk of a second season.

The pair previously worked together in 2019 in London’s West End musical Man of La Mancha and from there their friendship blossomed.

He revealed that when they decided for Frasier to have a best friend join the cast, Nicholas immediately came to mind.

‘When we got back to England I asked him if he wanted to be in the new Frasier.

‘He said, ‘Are you kidding me? I would do anything to work with you every day for the rest of my life.” The feeling is mutual.’

Nicholas’ appearance on the show comes after a difficult few years for the actor who lost his 19-year-old son Archie in 2020 after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

It was claimed at the time that he was considering quitting acting after the tragic loss, but this was denied by the acting camp, who insisted the idea was ‘ridiculous’.

And Kelsey is confident this won’t be all we see from Frasier and Alan, as he revealed they’ve written more than 100 episodes in hopes of future series.

Speaking to Deadline, Kelsey revealed: “Nick Lyndhurst. He is stealth warfare. He's the sneakiest, most talented actor I've ever worked with.

Alan has become a major character in the Frasier reboot, while Frasier’s brother Niles and his wife Daphne have disappeared, as has his father Martin, who recently passed away (actor John Mahoney died in 2018).

Instead, Frasier finds himself in Boston, where it all started with Cheers.

His career as a radio and TV psychologist is behind him and he teaches at Harvard University.

And just as Frasier struggled to get along with his father in the original show, the new series sees him trying to bond with his son Freddy.

He is helped, and often hindered, in his quest by his old Oxford friend Alan, now a professor at Harvard.

Apathetic and lazy, he couldn’t be more different from his uptight friend, yet the two share a bond.

Nicholas previously said of his role: “I would say Frasier hasn’t had a real friend before.

‘But sometimes you have a friend where you can sit in silence for hours. You don’t have to say anything. I think Alan is that for Frasier.”
