Surgery: The 83-year-old actor, who played Del Boy in the BBC’s sitcom ‘Only Fools’ from 1981 to 2003, revealed he will have to undergo surgery to have a ‘bionic body part’ inserted

He wrote, “I am very sorry for the disappointment and any inconvenience it may cause, but we must change the date of the upcoming Only Fools and Horses convention.

“Unfortunately, I’ve just been told I need a new bionic body part. I won’t tell you what part it is or you’ll all want one!

“And don’t worry, it’s not provided by Monkey Harris, it’ll be the pukka gear.”

He added about moving the event, “I really hope everyone can make it to the new date January 13th and 14th.

‘We can all have something tasty to look forward to! These events are such a fun celebration for myself and the rest of the ‘Only Fools’ cast, and it’s such a privilege to meet so many of you, but I want to do it with the smile on my face that I always have had. ‘

Sir David signed off his statement: ‘Once again please accept my sincerest apologies as it was not a decision I took at all lightly and I hope you understand my situation. All gentle wishes till then.’

The ‘Only Fools’ convention was supposed to take place in October, but is now scheduled for January at the Hilton Hotel in Milton Keynes.

Sir David is struggling with his health after a ‘seriously bad’ battle with Covid in July 2022.

Just kidding: In the Facebook post, he joked that he didn’t want to specify exactly which surgery he was heading to as it could make his fans “all want one”

The viral infection left him so weak that he fell at his home in Ellesborough, Buckinghamshire, telling BBC Breakfast of his tumble: ‘All the muscles weren’t working. I collapsed and fell against the radiator. I was so weak, I couldn’t get up.

“I spent about fifteen minutes trying, anything and everything, to get up so I could walk.

‘But I had to use my head for that. So now I’m face down on the floor, and to get to the door – and the arms really didn’t work and the legs didn’t work – I used my head to drag me to the door.”

It is thought that Covid caused a condition called myalgia, which causes muscle aches and pains and can affect ligaments, tendons and fascia – the soft tissues that connect muscles, bones and organs.
