Sir Alex Ferguson's brutal assessment of Chelsea has been revealed on social media after the Blues suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Wednesday.

The legendary United manager watched the match from his box at Old Trafford as the Red Devils secured a crucial win over Chelsea, triumphing thanks to two goals from Scott McTominay.

Man United and Chelsea, two Premier League giants who have each suffered in recent years, are both rebuilding their squads and have spent millions on new signings in their bid to return to the top.

Chelsea in particular have spent more than £1 billion on transfer and loan fees since the arrival of American tycoon Todd Boehly in May 2022. Despite the expenditure, Mauricio Pochettino's team is in tenth place in the Premier League after fifteen games this season.

The Blues had a midfield worth over £400m on Wednesday night, with a lucrative double rotation of Moises Caicedo (£115m) and Enzo Fernandez (£107m).

Wide midfielders Mykhailo Mudryk (£88.5m) and Raheem Sterling (£50m) occupied the flanks in the engine room, while summer signing Cole Palmer (£45m) operated behind goalkeeper Nicolas Jackson.

It seems like Ferguson wasn't too impressed with the level of Chelsea's midfield after the match.

A Chelsea fan has revealed how he spoke 'diplomatically' to the legendary coach after Wednesday's match and was keen to highlight Sofyan Amrabat's excellent performances for United in defensive midfield.

According to the fan, Ferguson did not want to take Amrabat's performance out of context and delivered a brutal judgment on Chelsea's midfield.

'We spent time in Sir Alex's box after the match against Chelsea. “I have diplomatically praised United's performance and specifically highlighted Amrabat's contribution,” the supporter said.

'Sir Alex's response: “That's all fine, but he had nothing against it.” Really says it all!'

Several supporters agreed with Ferguson's stance and criticized Chelsea's performance on social media.

“Absolutely devastating, and he's absolutely right,” said one fan.

A second Blues supporter added: 'Is anyone else concerned about the inability of our two very expensive midfielders to consistently impose themselves in games? Shouldn't Caicedo and Fernandez be regular game changers?'

Another interjected, simply saying, “He wasn't wrong… right?”

United moved up to sixth ahead of Newcastle's match against West Ham on Thursday and hosting Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Chelsea travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton on Sunday, with the Toffees still in the relegation zone after their 10-point deduction for breaching financial rules.
