I asked my Tinder date to split the bill with me on our first date and she was furious with me – and so are thousands of others

A single man has sparked a heated debate after insisting he split the bill with his Tinder date.

The man from Miami, Florida, with the username @thewaterboy, asked the woman out for dinner on a first date, but she was not happy when he made her pay for half of the meal.

While secretly recording the meeting at the restaurant, the woman passive aggressively threw down her credit card and asked, “Why are we splitting the bill?”

He replied, “Well, I mean, it’s our first date, so I thought maybe we should go half way.”

The awkward conversation was shared on TikTok and outraged thousands – with many women claiming the man should have paid for the first date as he was the one who asked the woman out in the first place.

@dewaterboy

I don’t even know her and she wanted to split the bill? After SHE ordered an entree that I didn’t want! THIS is what it’s like to date in MIAMI smh. I need to move somewhere else, these girls are RIGHT.

The footage then cut to the bitter conversation the pair had in the car.

“I can’t believe you made us split the bill,” the woman said, and he replied, “I mean, you ordered an appetizer that I didn’t even touch.” Why do you think I should do that?’

But she quickly interrupted him and said, “Okay, but you asked me out.”

The man then drove his date home and said, “Okay, goodbye.. hello.. goodbye.”

You can hear the woman unbuckling her seat belt, getting out of the car and saying “bye” in a rather sarcastic tone before slamming the door.

The video has since been viewed a whopping 6.2 million times and sparked a heated feud in the comments.

One person encouraged the man to “be a gentleman” and pay the entire bill in the future, and many agreed.

Someone else wrote: ‘I’m with her. You asked for the date… you pay!’

Another said only “friends split the bill” – not those on a first date.

A fourth added: ‘First and last date – he should be ashamed of himself.’

Another wrote: ‘He wanted to impress the internet brethren with this.’
