Monica has mitral valve prolapse, which means the flap that separates the upper and lower chambers of your heart does not close properly.

In addition, the singer also has high blood pressure.

In a 2016 Huffington Post article, her health problem was described in detail.

Her heart problem started at the age of 18 while on tour.

She was singing her hit Angel of Mine during a tour stop in Washington DC when she began to lose consciousness.

“Everything for me basically started going from color to black and white, fading in and out,” she said.

“I walked to the side of the stage to ask for help and fell into the arms of one of our staffers.”

At the time, Monica went to several doctors to see if they could find the cause, and was eventually diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse.

Monica was reportedly hospitalized for almost a month before returning to tour.
