Groom’s father goes viral after delivering ‘most epic’ wedding speech with a twist to honor his son and his new daughter-in-law

Sometimes music says what words can’t. In this case, a parody of Brandy from The Looking Glass, a nod to his son’s new wife, did just that.

The groom’s father, Bruce Miller, decided to lend his musical talents to his son Jake’s wedding and decided to sing for the bride and groom after his speech.

Bruce, 61, of Weston, Florida, became an internet phenomenon after a video of his personalized music track went viral, in which he mocked his son and told the story of his relationship with his new wife, Brandi.

“I love ’70s rock music and the band Looking Glass had a hit song called Brandy,” the father told TODAY, adding that he could change the lyrics to honor his new daughter-in-law.

Bruce worked with a local producer to create, memorize and practice the song while sitting in his car.

“I wanted to do it right,” the passionate father said.

A 38 second clip recorded by videographers Wild and roaming and shared by Jake on social media after his June 1 wedding, which features his father singing the first few bars of the song.

“They met the old fashioned way, Jake was on tour around Tampa Bay,” Bruce sang.

“He saw her picture on Instagram, so he DMed her and said, ‘Hey, come on my show,’” the clever caption continues.

She said, “I’ve never heard of you, so why should I go?” But they kept in touch and their love began to grow.

‘And here we are today.’

Jake posted the clip and wrote, “My dad gave the most epic wedding speech ever.”

The song was extra special because Jake is a musician himself and works as a singer and songwriter.

“That’s just who he is,” Jake tells TODAY.com. “The reason I got into music was because of my dad. He always had Bruce Springsteen and Eagles playing in the house and he taught me how to play drums when I was eight.”

Bruce, who says music is a huge part of his life, got the idea when a family friend sang a version of Billy Joel’s Piano Man at the wedding.

He then asked the bride and groom if he could do it at their wedding. They enthusiastically replied that he could.

The video has been viewed more than 3.1 million times on TikTok and thousands of people have commented on the sweet post.

“The best thing I’ve ever seen!!!,” one user enthused.

“That’s one I’ll never forget!!! Fantastic,” agreed another.

“We need the whole thing!!!” someone begged.

“This is the best thing I’ve seen in a long time!!! I don’t even know these people and I think this is amazing!!!! Wishing Jake and Brandy all the best!!!!” someone else cheered.

Jake and Brandi, a speech therapist, started dating in August 2019. He was living in Los Angeles at the time and she was living in Florida, but during the pandemic they moved in with his family in Florida.

“When I saw how well she got along with my parents and sister… I knew she was the one,” Jake enthused.

Bruce is already thinking about his next gig, now that Jake’s sister Jenny has recently gotten engaged. Luckily, he doesn’t suffer from stage fright.

“My endorphins started kicking in,” the proud father said of his performance at Jake and Brandi’s wedding.

“I’ve had the time of my life.”
