Feared Sinaloa cartel boss is gunned down by cops after cockfight shootout bloodbath
A notorious cartel boss has been killed by Mexican police just days after the organized gang shot dead several people in a cockfight massacre.
Jose “El Chabelo” Isabel was the boss of the Sinaloa Cartel in the city of Manzanillo, which is also home to Mexico’s busiest port.
The New York Post reported that Isabel and an unnamed accomplice were shot by Mexican police.
Isabel was already wanted by authorities on a murder warrant before the fatal encounter.
This comes after the cartel carried out a mass shooting at a cockfighting arena in Manzanillo’s Las Parotas neighborhood, killing two people.

Prosecutors in the Mexican state of Colima have not released details about the victims other than to identify Isabel.
The state, which lies along the Pacific coast, reported as many as 623 murders between January and October this year.

This gives Colima, which is smaller than Delaware and has only 731,391 inhabitants, a harrowing murder rate of 105 per 100,000 inhabitants.
This is five times higher than the national average in Mexico.
The Sinaloa Cartel grew from a small crime syndicate in the 1980s to one of the most powerful and violent drug gangs in the world.
It first focused on smuggling marijuana into the US before, under the leadership of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, diversifying into harder drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin.
This only strengthened the gang’s position as the most dominant drug cartel in Mexico.
