Simone Biles reveals she ‘broke down’ after NFL husband Jonathan Owens went viral for admitting he didn’t know who the Olympic gymnast was before they dated: ‘That really hurt’
Simone Biles has revealed how the backlash her husband, NFL star Jonathan Owens, faced over comments he made about the Olympic gymnast took a toll on her mental health and caused her to “break down.”
The Chicago Bears safety went viral after he insisted he wasn’t aware of Biles before they started dating. “I had never really paid attention to gymnastics,” he said.
Owens also claimed he was more of a catch for the seven-time Olympic medalist. Biles was there for the interview and claims she was happy with how it went, only to go home and see her husband in the middle of a social media storm.
“I thought everything was fine, and then I go on Twitter and everyone says, ‘Divorce this guy. He’s mean!’” Biles told the “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Wednesday.
“I’m like, ‘He’s the sweetest. He praises the ground I walk on.’ Really, I’ve never met a man like him… he really goes out of his way to do everything for me.’

Although Biles initially found it funny, the comment ultimately left a mark on the Olympic star.
“I thought it was hilarious at first, but then it hurt my feelings,” she said. ‘One night I broke down and thought, “Why are you guys talking about my husband like that? You don’t know him. You don’t know who he is and if anyone has met him, you know he’s the sweetest.” dude, will do anything for anyone.”
The 27-year-old added: ‘It really hurt that they talked about my husband like that. As for me, talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family, ever.’
Biles also defended Owen over his comments, insisting that he’never said (she) wasn’t a catch.”

“He said he was a catch… because he is! “I have never met a man like him,” she added.

Biles revealed that her husband only recently left the United States for the first time. “He had to get a passport, he had never had a passport before,” she explained.
‘I’m happy that he can see the Olympics because football is not in the Olympics and he always says it is the most difficult sport, universally. So why isn’t it in the Olympics?” she joked.
