Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens has admitted he had no idea of his wife Simone Biles' athletic success when they started dating in 2020.
Owens met the four-time Olympic gold medalist on the celebrity dating app Raya.
On a recent appearance on 'The Pivot Podcast', he revealed how Biles piqued his interest despite never paying attention to gymnastics.
“I'd literally been on the app for a few days, man, and it's like she shows up and I'm like, 'Let me see who this is.' I had never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity,” Owens said.
When Biles made the first move by messaging Owens, the former Missouri standout initially thought it must be “fake” as he learned who Biles was.

Owens opened up about how he and Biles matched on dating app Raya and Biles messaged him first
“I go work out, and I come back and I had some likes on my Instagram,” Owens recalled. “I was still waiting and then I came back to my phone, and then she messaged me through the app like, 'Hey. ''
“I didn't know who she was at the time, but the first thing I saw was that she just had a ton of followers, so in my mind I was like, 'Okay, she must be good,'” he added.
Owens talked about how the Olympics were completely off his radar during his college years.
While Biles was collecting medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Owens was in prep camp and had no access to networks broadcasting the games.
“When she won the Olympics, I was in college and we didn't have NBC, we didn't have Olympic channels and we were in camp,” Owens said.
“So I don't pay attention to it, I never would have had a moment where I would have looked at it.”
The couple started dating in 2020, got engaged in 2022 and married last spring in Mexico
Owens recalled that he and Biles hit it off right away when they finally met off the dating app.
As quickly as they found their chemistry, Owens quickly realized how famous Biles was. In one instance, a regular cookie run for the then-new couple turned into a photo op for Biles' fans.
“I think it was like a Sunday that we went, it was all moms and they were there with their kids and we were walking by and everyone stopped,” Owens said.
“They asked me, 'Hey, can you take this photo?'
Owens was drafted into the NFL in 2018 and met Biles two years into his professional career. Two years later, the power couple got engaged in February 2022.
They got married last spring in Cabo, Mexico. Despite being celebrities in their respective fields, they hosted an intimate ceremony with a total of 144 guests.
