Simone Biles got a shout-out during a live broadcast after her husband, Jonathan Owens, scored a touchdown in the Chicago Bears’ season opener on Sunday.
Owens scored on a blocked punt against the Tennessee Titans by Daniel Hardy.
Owens, the safety and special teamer, grabbed the ball and scored, celebrating by extending his arms along the way.
NFL commentator Adam Amin was reporting on the action and told viewers, “Mr. Biles, get involved!” — referring to Owens’ wife, a gold medal-winning gymnast.
Responding to a clip of the play on X, formerly known as Twitter, the gymnastics icon wrote: “I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK.”
Jonathan Owens was called ‘Mr. Biles’ during his blocked punt touchdown on Sunday
Biles celebrated her win when she saw her husband score, saying, “I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK”
She also shared the clip on her Instagram Story, adding, “LFG!! TOUCHDOWN FOR MAN.”
Although Amin did not intend to cause controversy, his comment reminded some of the time he was a guest on the ‘Pivot’ podcast earlier this year.
In that episode, Owens claimed he didn’t know Biles before he started dating her.
During that interview, he also claimed that he was “the prize” in their relationship, which seemed to cause quite a bit of controversy.
Simone was even forced to respond to the criticism, defending him and begging people to stop calling him “Mr. Biles” in a hurtful way.
“You guys are showing blatant disrespect to my relationship and my husband,” Biles said at the time.
“So I’m just going to say this once. With respect, fuck off. And if you keep commenting or tweeting, I’m just going to block you. It’s that simple.”
