Simone Biles demands ‘justice’ for Jordan Chiles continues to reel from court’s decision to strip her of her Olympic bronze and award it to Romanian rival

Simone Biles continues to support her Team USA teammate Jordan Chiles despite the ongoing controversy over her bronze medal on the floor exercise at the Paris Olympics.

β€œWe FaceTimed, texted and just been girls,” Biles said People while promoting her partnership with a hair care brand. “I was talking to her one day and I was like, ‘You know, Jordan, you need to feel all these feelings. Don’t let these emotions hold you back. This is the healthiest way to get it all out.’

It was a tough August for Chiles, who won bronze on the floor exercise in Paris on Aug. 5, thanks to an appeal from Team USA coach Cecile Landi, who challenged her athlete’s difficulty. The challenge resulted in a .1 boost, putting Chiles at 13.766 β€” just ahead of Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu at 13.700.

Chiles celebrated his victory on the podium that evening, but the medal has since been awarded to Barbosu after the Court of Arbitration for Sport declared Landi’s appeal invalid.

Biles, who won silver on floor on Aug. 5, insists Chiles isn’t too down. She’s “still that girl,” Biles told People, adding that her performance speaks for itself.

“We saw what you did,” Biles said of Chiles. “And it’s an unfortunate circumstance because it’s never happened before and it’s really unfortunate, but we wish all three girls would get the medal and unfortunately in gymnastics that’s not the case.

“Do we think they followed the proper procedures to come to this verdict?” Biles continued. “No. That’s really why we want that justice for Jordan and why we continue to support her and lift her up.”

There are currently “no plans” for Chiles to return her medal, U.S. officials told USA Today, but the 23-year-old is still clearly reeling from the ordeal.

Chiles swore off social media for a while, though Biles admits he shared a few funny posts with her.

“I know she’s not on social media, but some of the funny things I’ve seen, I’m like, ‘OK, Jordan, can I send you something that I think you’d really like?'” Biles told People.

“And so I sent her little things, and it was like one of them was these four or five girls guarding a medal, and I thought that was the cutest thing. And then I sent her Flavor Flav’s bronze [medal he made for her] and then I sent her LeBron [James]tweet from.

β€œSo just things to cheer her up and know that she still has the support of others.”

Chiles returned to social media on Friday, posting an Instagram Story with a screenshot of an X message that read, β€œShe a 10 but she still recovering from things she didn’t deserve.”

She previously called the decision to strip her medal “unfair,” while the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee told USA Today that CAS had made “significant procedural errors.”

According to the CAS, the Americans’ appeal was clocked at one minute and four seconds, which is longer than the established time frame of one minute.

However, USA Gymnastics says it has evidence to support its claim that the appeal was filed within the 47-second time limit.

Former Olympian Aly Raisman called the CAS ruling “confusing” and said an appeal would not even have been accepted if it had been filed too late.

“There’s a designated trained official. Their job is to keep track of the time,” she told Us Weekly. “They’re not allowed to accept the test if it’s not within that minute window. They accepted the test, which means the person who’s trained to do it saw that it was under a minute.”

Biles and Chiles are now set to compete in the Gold Across America Tour, which kicks off next month.
