Simone Biles and Sunisa Lee lead USA to its first team Olympic gold in artistic gymnastics since 2016 as Americans breeze by rivals in Paris

Simone Biles and Sunisa Lee led the U.S. team to its first Olympic gold medal in artistic gymnastics since 2016. The Americans easily defeated their rivals on Tuesday at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Team USA finished with an impressive winning score of 171.296.

Biles did not attempt her new event on the uneven bars, but still delivered an excellent routine that helped the U.S. team extend its lead.

Lee recovered after falling off the uneven bars during warm-up to finish her routine. She let out a sigh of relief, even though her feet touched the mat on one of her rotations. Her score of 14.566 was the best among American women.

Biles wore a big grin as she ran off the stage after her routine on the uneven bars.

Michael Phelps stood up and applauded her, his own arms raised high as he clapped for America’s star gymnast. He appeared to be filming her on his cell phone. Actor and director Spike Lee also jumped up to cheer Biles on, as if he were standing on the sidelines at a New York Knicks game.
