Simon Jordan has criticized Nike for replacing the St George’s Cross on the back of England’s shirt for Euro 2024 as he hit out at the ‘virtue-signaling’ FA.
The comic, launched on Monday ahead of this summer’s competition in Germany, promised to ‘celebrate football heroes of the past with a modern twist’.
But supporters were outraged when the kit designer revealed he had replaced the horizontal line on the traditional red cross with a navy blue, light blue and pink one.
And now talkSPORT presenter and Mail Sport columnist Jordan has also criticized Nike’s design, labeling the idea as ‘meaningless’.
He said: ‘I don’t quite understand why Nike wants to give a playful briefing about our identity.

‘Is our national identity a joke, is it something we are ashamed of? I think our national identity is something we should be proud of. I don’t find it offensive, I find it unnecessary.
“Rather than reclaim it, we erect a meaningless cross that has no value and represents no one.
‘No other country would let this happen, they wouldn’t allow this to happen on their national shirt.
“This is the same Nike that didn’t even bother to produce Mary Earps shirts. I don’t think we should learn lessons from Nike about the values of this country.
‘And the FA is absolutely complicit in this. The FA will have their virtue signaling fingers on this.”
Nike unveiled England’s new home and away kit on Monday ahead of this summer’s European Championship in Germany.
The kits – which will also be worn by the Lionesses and England Para teams in 2024 – will cost fans £124.99 in adult sizes and £119.99 for children.

The Nike home shirt has a classic, simple white design with a blue trim. While the kit makers have gone back with a dark blue for the exit strip.
Tweeting the launch of the new kit, Nike specifically referenced the ‘new’ flag alongside a photo in a social media post yesterday, writing: ‘A playful update of the St. George appears on the collar to unite and unite inspire.’
Jordan wasn’t the only prominent sporting figure to take issue with the creative decision, with Joey Barton also expressing his frustrations on social media.
The former Man City and QPR midfielder told X, formerly known as Twitter: ‘Why did you change the St. George’s cross on the back of the shirt. Why Rainbow-fy it? France and USA are undergoing the same change in their national flag?
‘They didn’t do that with the French, American or Dutch uniforms. They know the Rainbow, virtue signaling, simps and gimps crew will appreciate this.
