Simon Jordan reveals he is recovering from prostate cancer after ‘significant’ surgery – and former Crystal Palace chairman urges men to get tested
Former Crystal Palace chairman and well-known broadcaster Simon Jordan has revealed he is recovering from prostate cancer and has undergone surgery.
Jordan, who owned Premier League club Palace for a decade and used to be one of football’s youngest presidents, opened up about his health concerns live on talkSPORT.
In doing so, he also made a fervent plea for men to get tested.
“I’m recovering from cancer, I had pretty major surgery for prostate cancer two weeks ago,” Jordan announced on his show with Jim White. “As you can see, I can come today, but it will take me a while to recover.
“The reason I bring it up is I think it’s an important message.
“If I hadn’t had surgery, I wouldn’t be here. There is a real problem with consciousness. If you don’t address it with a simple test, one in eight white men and one in four men will get prostate cancer.
“I wanted to give the important message to be tested. I’m sitting here with six holes in my stomach peeing a little blood, but I’m here.’
Jordan added, “Which would you rather die of, embarrassment?” There are many people who have had this kind of situation. It is something that men should not ignore.
‘Men have to pay attention and I didn’t like the operation, but I had a top surgeon. I need to recover and have some tests ahead of me.’
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with an average of more than 52,000 men diagnosed each year – including 143 men every day.
