Simon Cowell reveals his son Eric 10, hilariously asked him if he had ‘heard of One Direction’ as he admits there have been some years he ‘hasn’t liked’ Britain’s Got Talent

Simon Cowell has revealed that his 10-year-old son Eric hilariously asked him if he had ever ‘heard of One Direction’.

The 64-year-old music mogul, who helped put together the boy band for X Factor in 2010, also said in the same interview that there were years when he ‘didn’t like Britain’s Got Talent’.

Speaking Capital breakfastSimon told how he will be holding auditions to find a new boy band, after realizing there hasn’t been a successful one since One Direction went their separate ways in 2016.

Simon still enjoys listening to One Direction’s songs when they come on the radio and reveals his son Eric is ‘obsessed’ with them.

Host Sian Welby said: ‘Oh really? Oh, that’s nice, it’s a whole new generation.’

Simon replied: ‘He actually said to me, ‘Have you heard of this band called One Direction, Dad?’

‘Stop!’ Sian said.

Simon said, ‘And I said, ‘Yes, why?’ and he said, ‘Yes, they are really good.’ And I said, ‘oh, thanks.’

After finishing third on The X Factor in 2010, One Direction became one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.

After releasing five albums, they have been on an indefinite hiatus since 2016, with all members pursuing solo careers.

On Wednesday, Simon shared a video of himself walking past a poster promoting his new boy band quest and jokingly said: “Oh my God, who is that handsome man?”

Elsewhere during the interview, Simon admitted he has been unimpressed with every series of Britan’s Got Talent on which he appears as head judge.

This year’s series was won by singer Sydnie Cristmas, with Simon praising the final as one of the best ever.

Sian said: “Everyone was of such elite quality. Like some acts I’ve never seen, like the guys doing taekwondo and kicking all the plates and stuff. You’ve just never seen anything like it before.’

Simon replied: Well, you know, the thing is, when you do these shows, everyone’s always like, ‘Yeah, this is the best ever,’ and blah blah blah.

“The truth is you can’t fake it. Either you like it or you don’t. And I really enjoyed it this year. There were years when I didn’t like it.’

He added: “I mean, after all the auditions you sit there and you know who the finalists are, and you go, ‘oh my God. Serious?’ And the winner is announced, and I’m like, ‘oh great,’ you know? And then I’m gone.’
