Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns’ massive payday is put on hold as he is forced to pull his $3million home from auction

Daniel Johns missed out on a $2.24 million payday this week when he was forced to withdraw his multimillion-dollar Merewether from auction.

The former Silverchair frontman, 45, bought the house in 1996 for $360,000 and planned to auction it off on Wednesday for $2.6 million to rake in a huge profit.

With initial hopes for a price indication of $3 million, Presence broker Chasse Ede has revised the price and has now moved the auction to Saturday, reports real estate.com.au.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home was first listed for sale in February and features multiple expansive living areas and a large loft space for an additional room.

Located in a ‘prized beachfront location’, the property is surprisingly understated for a celebrity home with a simple backyard and spacious rooms as selling points.

Ny Breaking Australia has contacted Daniel’s agent for comment.

The Ranclaud St house was the first property Daniel bought at the age of 17.

Daniel bought the house in 1996, shortly after his 17th birthday, after signing a three-album deal with his band in 1994.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom house is located in the beachside suburb of Merewether, more than two hours north of Sydney.

Daniel spent $645,000 on another house in the suburb a few months later.

In 2000, the singer paid $1.4 million for another five-bedroom Merewether home, where he still lives.

It comes after Daniel’s Silverchair bandmates Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou recently revealed exactly how the iconic rock band ended.

The pair wrote about the demise of Silverchair in their joint memoir last year, claiming Daniel had put them on an ’emotional rollercoaster’ by breaking up the band several times – only to change their minds.

However, that eventually came to an end when the trio performed at the Groovin’ The Moo music festival in 2010.

Ben said that shortly after the performance he received a “confusing phone call” from Daniel, in which he said the two words: “It’s inevitable.”

Although Daniel never explicitly said the band was breaking up, Ben and Chris were later told by their manager that it was over and that a press release would go out to the media announcing their ‘indefinite hiatus’.
