She gave birth to her daughter Marlowe, now 12, with her ex Tom Sturridge in July 2012.

And after welcoming her second child into the world with Oli earlier this year, Sienna told Stellar Magazine she couldn’t recommend late motherhood more highly.

Before welcoming her second child, Sienna spoke about her pregnancy for the first time with Vogue.

During the rare interview, the Horizon: An American Saga star spoke candidly about how her pregnancy had been “unplanned.”

But she added that Marlowe had wanted a brother or sister for some time and admitted she felt “more psychologically prepared” than with her firstborn.

Sienna said: “I was very lucky. I wasn’t necessarily trying to get pregnant. This came as a total surprise and biologically speaking it was something I could do.”

Discussing what’s different this time, she explained, “I have expectations that I didn’t have before. I feel much better psychologically prepared than with Marlowe.’

‘It was quite a shock, the reality. I hadn’t thought about it, I don’t think you can prepare for it. In my mind I imagine this will be the most beautiful, but I think I forgot.’

Sienna went on to tackle the stigma surrounding pregnancy as an older woman, confessing that she had battled her own prejudices on the subject.

She said: ‘I think people are comfortable with a way of life that has been around for years and is very misogynistic and patriarchal.’

“Like I’m the older woman who’s in a partnership with a younger person, or I’m pregnant over 40, and that’s an irresponsible and poor child and it’s such double standards.”

She added, “I’d like to get to a point where I didn’t feel the need to make a joke about me being older and having a baby, to show that I’m in on the joke.”

In an interview earlier this year, she explained: “I think you either live carefully or you take risks.”

She added that regardless of success or otherwise, her choices are answered, she is finally at peace.

‘For a long time I felt the need to really prove something, and that is reflected in the choices I made. I was doing roles that were very heavy and dramatic and emotionally challenging because I felt like I was probably seen as frivolous. I’m completely over that now.’
