Confronting CCTV has released footage of the horrific moment a young girl was hit by a car while riding her bike through a suburban area.
The 9-year-old girl was cycling on a footpath on Polly Parade, Tarneit in Melbourne’s west on Monday afternoon.
As she drove onto the road, an oncoming white sedan collided with the bicycle, sending the girl flying through the air and over the hood onto the road.
The bicycle was dragged under the front of the car.
The driver and a passing motorist in a van both stopped and ran to help the girl as she lay injured in the middle of the road.
The girl did not appear to be wearing a helmet at the time.
Surveillance footage showed the driver of the sedan helping the girl to her feet and checking to make sure she was okay.
Ambulances were called to the scene and took the girl to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
