Shopper exposes massive price difference after doing her weekly supermarket trip to both Coles and Aldi: ‘Truly unbelievable’

An Australian shopper has exposed the huge price difference she experienced after shopping at both Aldi and Coles.

Mum Lidia always shops at Aldi first to buy most of the items on her shopping list, before visiting Coles to buy a few extra products.

On her most recent trip, her massive Aldi collection of more than 35 items cost $255.

When she went to Coles to pick up some extra items, including bread, carrots and tuna, she expected a small bill but was alarmed to find she spent $78..

‘I just find it so interesting. I actually can’t believe the price increases. It’s disgusting and shameful for Coles and Woolies for allowing people to do this. Well done Aldi,” Lidia said in a now-viral TikTok video.

Lidia ‘big store’ from Aldi included fresh fruit, vegetables, tinned goods, frozen food, conditioner and drain cleaner.

The $255 loot included three different types of cheese, a bag of avocados, ground beef, three cucumbers, three containers of yogurt, one cauliflower, peas, frozen chips, two boxes of Plat-A-Pops paddle pops, sweet potato, apples, two onions, two lemons, a bowl of strawberries and raspberries.

She also bought muffins, hot cross buns, English muffins, red beans, lentils, corn, taco seasoning, baby spinach and arugula, espresso capsules, grilled peppers, packets of chips for the children’s lunch boxes, rice, mushrooms and rice crackers.

“This is enough to make seven meals for the week… we are trying to eat more plant-based meals and I have already frozen some schnitzels so we don’t need too much meat this week,” she said.

Lidia described the price of her groceries as ‘incredible’ – before sharing her relatively small Coles store.

By comparison, at Coles she bought three loaves of own brand bread, kabana, miniature wraps, cabbage, canned tuna, dark soy sauce, carrots, noodles, sauce and bean sprouts.

β€œThis tiny little section cost $78!” She said as she pointed to the items.

The comparison left her baffled and she recorded a video to encourage others to shop at Aldi first too.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Coles for comment.

The short video has since been viewed a whopping 1.5 million times, with others saying they too shop at Aldi to save money.

‘You only realize how ripped off you are shopping at Woolies and Coles when you go to Aldi!’ wrote one customer.

‘Aldi is great. It’s my favorite store and there’s better food anyway,” said another.

‘Went to Aldi last week and bought food for a week for $95. Thirty articles. Went to Coles to buy five items: $45. Crazy,” wrote a third.

‘It’s true, I was afraid to buy vegetables because everyone complains that it is so expensive. “I went to Aldi and bought a whole cauliflower, two potatoes, a tomato and a jar of chopped garlic for just over $7,” another added.

However, other customers have a different experience.

β€œI opened my first Aldi store last week and it was only $10 cheaper than our normal store,” one person claimed.

Another complained about the quality of the product, saying: ‘Every time I buy fruit from Aldi it goes off within 24 hours.’

‘Try living in Tassie without Aldi as an option. We are all poor,” said a third.
