Morayfield shooting: Teenage boy grilled by police after Brisbane woman is shot dead

Police are interviewing an 18-year-old found in the unit where a woman, 29, was shot and killed overnight as investigators rule out domestic violence.

Emergency services were called to a unit on Grant Road in Morayfield, in Brisbane’s north, shortly after midnight on Sunday after a neighbor in the same complex heard a gunshot.

A 29-year-old woman was found on the ground floor of the unit with a gunshot wound and died at the scene.

Detective Inspector David Harbison said Sunday that a teenager was also located in the unit complex by first responders.

“It appears the victim and the man know each other,” he said.

“It is not being treated as a domestic violence incident at this stage.”

Detective Inspector David Harbison said the pair knew each other but did not live in the unit (pictured, a car on the premises)

He said police are investigating why the pair were at the address, why there was a firearm on the property and how it was discharged.

“The victim certainly did not live at that address and our investigators are trying to establish why these individuals were at this address,” Insp Harbison said.

“There was no one else at this address at the time and we have not heard of any disturbances that occurred there prior to the shooting.”

Queensland Police are still conducting a forensic examination of the unit, with Insp Harbison adding that detectives are not likely to arrive until later on Sunday or Monday.

The firearm has not been found.

When asked why officers were searching the bins across the street, Inspector Harbison said it was standard practice.

“We are looking for evidence, including firearms,” he said.

Police also seized a car that was found a short distance from the house.

Insp Harbison said officers had found no evidence of any other illegal activity in the unit and no one else was wanted in connection with the shooting.

Police have urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
