Shohei Ohtani buys $8million mansion away from LA’s A-list neighborhoods as humble Dodgers star splashes out after signing record $700m deal

Shohei Ohtani has spent the money on a luxury mansion in California, five months after signing the biggest contract in sports history.

Ohtani, who signed a record $700 million, 10-year contract with the LA Dodgers in December, spent nearly $8 million on the swanky five-bedroom property in La Cañada Flintridge, just 11 miles from Dodger Stadium.

Although it features some famous faces – including actors Topher Grace and Donald Glover – the location is quiet, away from celebrity hotspots like Beverly Hills, Hidden Hills and Malibu.

These areas may have proven too high-profile for the understated baseball star, who only recently went public with his wife Mamiko Tanaka after revealing he is a married man earlier this year.

According to the LA timesthe 7,327 square meter property was built in 2013 and sits on almost an acre.

On the inside, it features a modern exterior that gives way to Midcentury-inspired living spaces composed of stone, glass and wood beneath skylights, clerestory windows and bluestone walls.

Highlights include an indoor/outdoor living room, a kitchen with custom cabinetry, a family room with a fireplace and a home theater, a fitness room, a sauna and a basketball court.

In addition to five bedrooms, the mansion also has 6.5 bathrooms, including a primary suite with a balcony and spa bath.

Pocket doors leading outside also take you to a lounge area overlooking a pool, spa and lawn.

And to make matters even sweeter for Ohtani, the house was originally listed for sale last June for almost $9 million, meaning he got a huge discount.

He took over from comedian Adam Carolla, who put it up for sale after his divorce from his wife Lynette.

The two-way phenomenon has treated himself to a new home amid the ongoing investigation into the gambling debts of his former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara.

Mizuhara recently pleaded guilty to bank fraud and signing a false tax return, which could land him in prison for more than 30 years after stealing $17 million from Ohtani.

According to the Los Angeles TimesLionsgate Television is working on creating a scripted series based on the scandal.

This show follows the story of Ohtani and his rise to become one of the most popular baseball players in the world.

But much of the story will focus on the moment he heard the news that Mizuhara stole tens of millions to pay off his gambling debts.

That happened earlier this year and the Dodgers fired him after hearing about the allegations.
