Shogun leads the way with four Golden Globes TV wins with Hacks and Baby Reindeer also winning big
Just months after its record-breaking run at the Emmy Awards, Shogun has once again proven that this is the TV series to slay in the upcoming awards season.
The FX series, based on James Clavell’s 1975 historical novel, won a record 18 Emmys in September, the largest annual record for any show in Emmy history.
Shogun ultimately achieved a clean sweep, winning all four awards he was nominated for at the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
Max’s comedy series Hacks also had a big night with two wins, while Netflix’s Baby Reindeer also picked up a few statues.
Shogun’s won TV’s biggest prize of the night: Best TV Series, Drama, beating Apple TV Plus’ The Diplomat, Prime Videos Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Netflix’s Squid Game, Apple TV Plus’ Slow horses and peacocks The day of the Jackal.
It also won three of the top acting awards, with Hiroyuki Sanada taking home Best TV Actor – Drama, Anna Sawai taking home Best TV Actress – Drama and Tadanobu Asano taking home Best Supporting Actor – TV for his win.

Sanada defeated Donald Glover (Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Jake Gyllenhaal (presumed innocent), Gary Oldman (slow horses), Eddie Redmayne (The Day of the Jackal) and Billy Bob Thornton (Landman) for his first win and nomination.
‘Thank you, Golden Globes, for recognizing me. I’m so happy to be here with these amazing nominees. And thank you, FX, Disney, Hulu and all the cast members and crew of Shogun for sharing this amazing journey,” he said.
He also thanked “everyone who has been in my life” for “getting me here,” before offering some sage advice to young actors and creators.
“I would like to say to the young actors and creators in the world: please be yourself, believe in yourself and never give up. Good luck,” he said.
Anna Sawai was defeated Kathy Bates (Matlock), Emma D’Arcy (House of the Dragon), Maya Erskine (Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Keira Knightley (Black Pigeons) and Keri Russell (The Diplomat), and as she thanked Golden Globe voters, she insisted, “I’d vote for Kathy Bates any day.”
‘Thank you to our incredible writers. Without a good script it is impossible to give a performance to our full potential. Thanks to everyone else. I’m going to thank you later. Thank you!’ she said.
Tadanobu Asano defeated Javier Bardem (Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez), Harrison Ford (shrinking), Jack Lowden (slow horses), Diego Luna (La Maquina) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) in his first win and nomination.
‘Wow! Maybe you don’t know me. I am an actor from Japan. My name is Tadanobu Asano. Thank you so much!’ he said to applause.

He said he has to go back to Tokyo tonight and will start shooting again tomorrow morning, although he added: “This is a very big gift for me!” Thank you very much! Thanks, Shogun Team! Thanks, everyone! I am very happy! Thank you!’
Hacks also won the coveted Golden Globe for best comedy series, while Jean Smart took home her second Globe for the hit show.
Hacks have been defeated Abbott Elementary, The bear, The gentlemen, Nobody wants this and Only murders in the building.
Slim won Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants This), Quinta Brunson (Abbott primary school), Ayo Edebiri (the bear), Selena Gomez (Only Killings in the Building) and Kathryn Hahn (Agatha all the time).
Netflix’s Baby Reindeer won Best Limited TV Series, while Jessica Gunning won Best Supporting Actress – TV.
