Shocking footage captured the moment a Texas school official brutally beat a student in foster care in a violent school bus rampage.

The attack occurred as the bus was delivering children home to Conroe, Texas, just a day after students returned to school on Thursday.

It’s unclear what – if anything – sparked the furious blitz, with video taken by terrified students in the back of the bus hearing screams of, “You’re on video! You just hit a child!’ The child is in foster care and had to be treated in the emergency room for injuries, according to police activist Sarah Fields.

The assailant, who was a school bus monitor for the Conroe School District before being immediately fired over the incident, was seen pushing the student to the ground before taking several blows to him.

As students watch in horror, the school employee appears to grab him by the shirt and yell in his face.

The Texas Police Department has launched an investigation into the attack and expects to file criminal charges for the attack.

Conroe High School students have expressed outrage at the incident, with one describing it as “merciless.”

“I was honestly shocked, I never expected to see someone who should be a role model and leader in our school, like a staff member. I would never think they would get their hands on a child,” Alexa Perez said Click2Houston.

“I was really surprised, I didn’t think a teacher would ever do that honestly,” adds Evelyn Segura.

“Are we really safe at school?” asked another student ABC13. “To get to the point where you have to use force is insane.” The teen recording the incident, who declined to be named, told the outlet that the beating was unlike anything he had ever seen.

After the images quickly spread online, residents have demanded accountability for the behavior of the bus worker. A local activist also claimed that before the attack, the student “told the bus driver’s assistant that he was being disrespectful.”

The assaulted student also reportedly lives in an institution operated by the Department of Family and Protective Services.

In a statement after the attack went viral, Sarah Blakelock, director of communications for Conroe ISD, said the employee had lost his job at the district’s transportation department.

“We are alarmed by this unacceptable behavior that is not representative of our hundreds of hard-working transportation workers,” said Blakelock.

“The individual is no longer employed by the precinct and the Conroe ISD Police are completing their investigation with the expectation of pursuing criminal charges.”

After being hospitalized by the school official, the teen has since been discharged and is now recovering.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s office has said it is helping police investigate the attack.

Law enforcement officials have said they expect to pursue criminal charges against the attacker.
