Shocking update in New Hampshire cold case of 5-year-old boy murdered on Christmas Eve in 2019

There is a shocking update on the murder of a five-year-old boy who was killed on Christmas Eve in 2019.

The death of Dennis “Boo” Vaughn Jr., 5, was ruled a homicide after he was found in a two-story home in Laconia, New Hampshire, with blunt force trauma to his head and neck.

At the time of his death, the boy was home with several family members. However, no arrests have been made in the case… yet.

It has been reported that Boo’s grandmother, Sherry Connor, 61, has been arrested and charged in connection with his death.

Connor faces multiple charges ranging from manslaughter due to recklessness in the death of a minor to assault, witness tampering and manslaughter, according to a joint statement from the New Hampshire State Police and the Laconia Police Department.

Law enforcement officials announced Friday that Connor will appear in Belknap County District Court at a later date.

Her shocking arrest comes nearly five years after the devastating murder, which was widely documented by the New Hampshire media.

Connor was considered the prime suspect because the boy had died in her apartment. However, she claimed he had died of “natural causes,” even though the autopsy results showed otherwise.

For years, local residents and officials were baffled by the case and shocked that it had not been solved.

Locals supported the Vaughan family to try and bring justice to the little boy

In October 2023, a local woman, July Anderson, walked into the Laconia mayor’s office with a photo of Boo to remind the mayor that the murder was still unsolved.

She started a GoFundMe – which raised $3,000 for the family.

“The Vaughan family’s sweet, lovable 5-year-old son and brother, Dennis Vaughan, Jr., was murdered in the most shocking and brutal way,” the GoFundMe reads.

“His nickname was Boo. Sadly, Boo was murdered on Christmas Eve 2019, and his murder remains unsolved, more than 3 years later.”

Anderson spent her career investigating reports of abuse in the Children, Youth and Families Department.

Laconia Family Court documents show that Connor (his grandmother) was appointed the boy’s guardian in April 2018

“It’s just in my nature to say there’s something wrong here. Something’s not right,” she said of Boo’s case.

Boo’s mother Danielle Vaughan, 31, said shortly after his death: “My heart is broken. I’m dying inside knowing that I did everything I could to get him and my other children out of the house and no one listened.”

When the little boy was fatally injured, Danielle attempted to regain custody of her children from her mother, their maternal grandmother, Connor.

Laconia Family Court records show that Connor was appointed the boy’s guardian in April 2018. That guardianship was part of a plan for the child, who was in the care of the Department of Health and Human Services.
