Shocking moment woman dies after her car goes airborne and she crashes into home at 100mph: Family and toddlers inside narrowly avoid being injured

A doorbell camera captured the moment when a motorist’s car literally flew into an occupied house while driving down a residential street – killing the elderly driver instantly and narrowly missing a three-year-old child in the house.

The deadly crash occurred Tuesday in St. Louis, Missouri, leaving a literal hole in the occupied home on Kingston Drive.

Veronica Schoettle, said her three-year-old nephew was lying on a bed near that wall when the car hit the house at frightening speeds that seemed to be around 100 mph, even pushing the bed with the child forward a few feet, NBC 4 reported.

Schoettle, who rents the house, said three other people were inside at the time and her cousin was unharmed.

As for the driver, police have yet to release a name, but confirmed in a statement to DailyMail.com that she was “an adult female aged 73.”

She was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before a preliminary investigation found the vehicle had been traveling well above the 40 mph speed limit.

Also inside was tenant Derek Wentzel, who said the car - which is seen in the air for several seconds - missed the child by inches. He is no longer allowed to enter the now boarded up house

Eerie footage from the scene suggested the car had been traveling at least 100 mph β€” before running over an SUV parked in the home’s forecourt and driving into the house.

Those who were in the house are now speaking of the traumatizing ordeal, including Derek Wentzel, 37, who rented the house with Schoettle.

Speak against KSDKhe said the car – which can be seen in the air for several seconds in the footage – missed the child by inches.

“It could have hit him all the way, yes,” Wentzel said, adding that the child’s parents had also visited the home. “Missed him by inches.”

He added that officials who inspected the home told him it was likely a “total loss” beyond repair.

β€œThey said we might not be able to get back into our house at all. It can be a total loss,” he said.

His mother, Diane Wentzel, remembered driving the five miles to her son’s house after hearing about the crash, and soon realized the magnitude of what had happened when she saw the damage.

She further suggested that the now-murdered driver, who police suspect suffered from a medical condition, was female.

“This only happens in movies,” she said, adding that she was saddened to learn the driver had died.

“I just hope she didn’t even know what was happening when it happened.”

With the house boarded up, the family said they are now trying to pick up the literal pieces left behind by the disaster, and hope to return to some sort of normalcy soon.

Police, who are currently reconstructing the crime scene, said the crash occurred just before 2.30pm and the vehicle was traveling north on Kingston Drive towards Telegraph Road at ‘extremely high speed’.

At one point, police said the vehicle veered off-road, hit an embankment and went airborne.

Footage shows the final part of that sequence, and how the car – a maroon sedan – was suspended a few feet in the air before the impact.
