Remarkable footage shows several cars stopped on a highway in South Africa’s Kruger National Park on August 9 as they tried to pass three lionesses.
But while most drivers on the H1-4 between the Satara and Olifants rest camps stopped to admire the big cats, one motorist was less concerned about their presence.
In his haste to get past, the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV towing a caravan maneuvered around one of the vehicles, only to hit one of the lionesses from behind.
It is not yet clear whether the incident was intentional, but the driver was fined, a spokesperson for Kruger National Park said.

A clip of the incident was posted on social media, prompting national park authorities to respond.
Kruger National Park spokesman Ike Phaahla said: “We tackled him by tracing the license plate.
“All we know is that he was trying to push his way through when he encountered the animal.”
Mr Phaahla said he was unsure how much the driver would be fined, but local media reported the maximum fine was £64 or R1,500.
South African National Parks (SANParks) also commented on the incident, saying: “Please be advised that the incident where a vehicle struck a lioness during a sighting in Kruger National Park has been dealt with.
“Action was taken as soon as we were made aware of the incident. Thank you for reporting the matter to us.”
According to SANParks rules, harming animals is strictly prohibited. The man’s identity has not been released.
