Houston police have released footage of an officer being shot multiple times in an ambush by a suspect hiding behind the truck.
Sergeant M. Valle, 38, was searching for a man suspected of multiple burglaries and aggravated assault while driving a silver car near the Mahatma Gandhi district at 1 a.m. on December 2.
Video of the incident shows the suspect, 23, waiting for the officer behind a truck before running to his car and firing several shots through the passenger window.
A seriously injured Sergeant Valle then gets out of his car and begins shooting the fleeing suspect before falling to the ground.
The officer was taken to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center and is now in stable condition, but the suspect, who has yet to be identified, died from his injuries.

Sergeant M. Valle, 38, was searching for a man suspected of multiple burglaries and aggravated assault while driving a silver car near the Mahatma Gandhi district at 1 a.m. on December 2.
In the footage, the suspect looks to his left after shooting at Valle to see if any other police cars are approaching before he continues shooting.
After returning fire in his shootout with the suspect, Valle staggers and falls to the ground, radioing, “Guys, I've been shot, get over here.”
Other officers come to his aid and Sergeant Valle says, “Pull me a tourniquet. Tourniquet me up. He fled that way south.”
He told them he had been shot in both arms and legs and that his wounds had been compressed.
Sergeant Valle was treated at the scene before being transported to Memorial Hermann.

The suspect ran away and was found on the corner of the building where he was later pronounced dead.
He has yet to be identified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Sergeant Valle was sworn in as an officer of the Houston Police Department in April 2007 and works with the Midwest Patrol Division.
The shooting is being investigated by the city's Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Department and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
