It looked like a scene from an action movie when a house in the Washington DC suburb of Arlington, Virginia went up in flames during a standoff on Monday evening.
Police say a person inside the home fired gunshots at officers as they attempted to enter the home.
“An explosion subsequently occurred at the residence and officers continue to investigate the circumstances of the explosion,” authorities in Arlington said in a statement.
The blast set the house on fire in the Bluemont section of the city.
Emergency services are trying to extinguish the fire while residents of the area have been evacuated or told to shelter in place.
