Footage has emerged showing a fan being punched and kicked by a group of stewards during Portugal’s last-16 win over Slovenia at Euro 2024.
Roberto Martinez’s team secured a place in the quarter-finals of the competition after a dramatic penalty shootout victory, with Slovenia missing all three shots.
The match ended 0-0 after 120 minutes, but Portugal did have a golden opportunity to score when they were awarded a penalty in extra time.
However, Cristiano Ronaldo was unable to convert the ball and had to watch as Slovenian Jan Oblak made a superb save to keep the score level in Germany.
Now that the dust has settled on the victory, a video on X has emerged showing a fan being attacked by stewards as the penalty was awarded in the closing stages.

The supporter was repeatedly hit in the final stages of Portugal’s victory over Slovenia
The video shows a fan being held against a wall by a group of stewards and punched several times in the head before falling to the ground.
When he is lying on the ground, several stewards start kicking him and hitting the supporter.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the video, it appears another fan is being picked up and held by a security guard as the brutal attack takes place.
In the video, other fans can be heard shouting loudly, presumably trying to stop the stewards from attacking the supporter.
It was a frustrating evening with Ronaldo desperately trying to score. His penalty in extra time forced Oblak to make a great save, but the ball hit the post.
Ronaldo could not control his emotions after being denied and burst into tears when Portugal coach Martinez called his team together for a team talk.
His mother, Maria, also sat in the stands, crying as she watched helplessly, unable to offer her superstar son any comfort or words of encouragement.
The 39-year-old wept uncontrollably as his teammates consoled him after his miss as the former 2016 European Championship champion tried to recover for the second half of extra time.

Cristiano Ronaldo endured an emotional rollercoaster as Portugal narrowly qualified
Ronaldo later announced that Euro 2024 will be his last time competing in the competition as he enters the twilight of his illustrious career.
“It’s definitely my last European Championship,” Ronaldo said via the Portuguese media Oh Jogo. ‘But that doesn’t make me emotional, I get emotional about everything that has to do with football.
‘Because of the enthusiasm I have for the game, the enthusiasm to see my supporters, my family, the affection people have for me. It’s not about me leaving football, because if I do, what else would I have to do or win?
‘It’s not about getting one point more or one point less. Making people happy is what motivates me the most.’
