Shocking moment driver punches mum in Lidl car park in front of terrified customers after chasing her out of nearby Sainsbury’s when she overtook him

This is the moment a man punched a woman in a car park in front of terrified shoppers after chasing her for overtaking him in a shocking case of road rage.

Linda Schofield said the violence started after she overtook him on a dual carriageway leaving Sainsbury’s in Camberley, Surrey.

Believing the 57-year-old mother-of-two had almost ’caused an accident’, the angry man chased Ms Schofield for five minutes to a Lidl car park, where he confronted her in front of other customers.

In shocking footage, the driver can be heard saying: ‘I’m going to punch you in the face’ before allegedly punching the terrified mother twice in the back as witnesses shouted to ‘get his number plate’.

The motorist then sped away as Mrs Schofield, a farm shop worker who lives in Camberley, pleaded with witnesses to call the police.

She said the incident left her feeling “shocked and intimidated” and she fears she will bump into him again while shopping.

She said: ‘I was shocked and appalled. It makes you feel like you’re not safe. I feel intimidated by him. It was just mean.

“A lot of people said, why didn’t you hit him back? But I was just in shock. I was afraid he would attack me again.

“If I turned around and pushed him, I didn’t know what he would do. I was afraid I would be seriously injured.

‘It certainly made me nervous about going back to Lidl. And I’m really wary of blue Ford Fiestas now. What should I do if I see it in the store?’

Hampshire Police confirmed they were investigating reports of a man who allegedly threatened a woman and punched her twice before driving away on October 25. They appeal for all information from the public.

The mother claims the motorist followed her to a nearby Lidl for five minutes because she had just overtaken him and that she was not driving dangerously or speeding.

Mrs Schofield added: ‘He stood in front of me at the traffic lights coming out of Sainsbury’s and we both turned left.

‘Then I overtook him on the dual carriageway, not dangerous or anything. I wasn’t speeding.

‘After I overtook him, at the next traffic lights I could see that he was behind me and trying to get closer to my bumper. And I thought that was a bit strange.

‘Then the traffic lights turned green and I indicated that I was going to Lidl and I looked and he came in too.

‘He followed me to the Lidl car park, he had no intention of going to Lidl.

‘As I was parking he zoomed up next to me and left his car in gear so his car lurched forward, so that’s when I thought this wasn’t right and pressed record on my phone.

‘I thought, what is he doing? I was worried.

“He said something like ‘you’re trying to crash.’ And I thought, how on earth did I do that?

‘Then he said, ‘I’m going to punch you in the face.’ There was no prior discussion.’

The mother-of-two then went to film the driver’s license plate as the man allegedly walked around his car and punched her twice on the back, leaving two red marks.

Mrs Schofield continued: ‘It hurt and I had two red marks afterwards.

‘I went to Lidl to see if they had CCTV footage and the manager called the police. She looked at my back and said you have red spots on your back.

‘It’s scary and unexpected. I was alone.

‘My family was furious. No one who sees that video can believe it.

“All I did was overtake him on the dual carriageway.”

Ms Schofield lodged an online report with Hampshire Police the following day, saying an officer informed her the driver would be given a warning.

However, the concerned mother believes the motorist should be prosecuted to prevent further attacks.

She said: ‘I said (to the police officer): won’t he be prosecuted for this? I said it may not be urgent to you, but to me it is.

‘I don’t think the police are bothered by this man hitting people.

‘He should be prosecuted for assault. He can’t do this.’

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: ‘We were called on October 25 to a report of an assault in the Lidl car park on London Road in Blackwater.

‘A woman was threatened by a man, who then hit her twice in the back.

‘The man then got into a car and drove away. No injuries have been reported.

‘Officers have launched an investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting 44230436907.’

A Lidl spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm that colleagues at our Blackwater store provided comfort and support to a member of the public on October 25 following an incident that took place outside the store.

‘As this is a police matter we cannot provide any further information, but we will continue to assist the authorities in any way that is helpful.’
