Shocking moment Caitlin Clark is just inches from seriously injuring fan as she shanks shot at golf tournament

Caitlin Clark breathed a sigh of relief Wednesday morning after narrowly avoiding hitting a golf ball into a fan’s head during a celebrity golf tournament.

The WNBA superstar swapped the basketball court for the golf course to play in the Pro-Am golf tournament at The Annika in Florida, but nerves seemed to get the better of him in front of a capacity crowd on the third hole.

While lining up her shot with a driver, Clark accidentally fired it straight into the fans watching on the left, narrowly avoiding disaster and causing a shocked reaction from the hundreds watching.

The ball was inches away from hitting fans at very high speed, which would certainly have resulted in serious injury.

Immediately you see the basketball icon apologize as the crowd laughs at her mistake, before lining up a new ball to try again.

On her second attempt, Clark keeps the ball straight and prevents further disaster.

Despite narrowly avoiding injury, it seems the fans didn’t mind and quickly chased after the lost ball in an attempt to find a souvenir to take home.

The court was lined with fans in Indiana Fever 22 jerseys, with Clark the big draw for the celebrity tournament at The Pelican Club.

It was a chaotic round for the basketball star, who only recently started playing golf and appeared in front of her largest crowd ever, far away from the basketball court.

Clark mixed some brilliant approach shots with some sub-par duffs, showing she’s human after all in the aftermath of a dominant rookie season in the WNBA.

Later in her round, she reached a fairway wood and heard a soft mutter of “oh no.”

Clark played alongside two of golf’s greatest icons, world No. 1 Nelly Korda and 10-time major winner Annika Sorenstam.

Ahead of Wednesday’s match, the 22-year-old, who revealed she has a handicap of 16, hilariously admitted she had set her standards much lower.

‘I’ve tried to practice as much as possible. I’m just the average golfer. I’m going to hit some good, I’m going to hit some bad. It is what it is.’
