Shocking moment boat explodes into flames, leaving one dead and five injured at Florida marina

Shocking surveillance footage showed the moment a boat moored at a Florida marina went up in flames on Monday evening.

The explosion at a Fort Lauderdale marina killed one person and injured five others, three of whom were taken to hospital with traumatic injuries. NBC 6 South Florida reported. The other two were also taken to hospital.

The person who died was originally listed as missing in the water. Divers searched the area and later found their bodies.

Footage from a nearby EarthCam surveillance camera showed several people were on the boat when it violently exploded, tearing it completely in half and sending pieces of the ship flying in all directions.

People on the dock and on the boat seemed to have no indication that anything was wrong as they were behaving normally until the explosion around 5:54 p.m.

Three people who were on the dock were seen immediately running away after the explosion.

A group of about nine people who were on another boat further down the dock tried to throw water on the burning ship.

Over the next few minutes the still flaming ship could be seen drifting dangerously close to the second boat. Eventually the two boats came into contact with another, giving the fire a new lease of life.

Fort Lauderdale officials confirmed the fire had spread to the second boat, NBC 6 reported.

Authorities still have not said what caused the explosion or provided any further information.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said they received multiple 911 calls reporting the explosion at the Fort Lauderdale Marina.

Footage from an NBC 6 helicopter showed firefighters spraying water on the burning remains of both boats.

Firefighters stood on the dock and on one of their boats as they tried to extinguish the stubborn fire.
