Shocking footage shows how Met police officers shot dead two ‘dangerously out of control’ dogs that mauled a woman.

Videos posted to social media by shocked witnesses show a group of police officers following a man with two barking dogs on short leashes along a canal in Limehouse, east London.

Officers were seen in a heated argument with the man as he continued to hold his dogs and try to calm them down.

The situation quickly escalated when one of the black dogs was shot dead, while the screaming owner was then tasered and pinned to the ground.

The second dog was then shot dead as screaming witnesses watched the scene from the balconies of surrounding apartment buildings.

London police defended their actions by explaining that officers had a ‘duty to act where necessary before causing further injury’.

A woman filming from a window on the other side of the canal can be heard saying “oh my god” repeatedly before shouting “are you okay” to the man after gunshots were fired.

The chaotic scene saw groups of people take to their balconies and rooftops to see what was causing the commotion.

The Met said they were forced to act quickly because of “the aggressive behavior of two dogs of great concern.”

Officers were called to the scene after reports of a woman being attacked by the dog on Commercial Road in Tower Hamlets.

The dogs were reported to be of “significant concern” and posed a “significant threat to” officers who were on the scene.

No one was taken to hospital as a result of the attack, but a man was arrested in connection with having a dangerously out of control dog.

This was told by a 25-year-old woman who witnessed the situation the mirror: ‘It seemed disproportionate. It’s unbelievable.

“It was so shocking. I didn’t realize it was a real gun until the dogs were just all over the floor. Blood came out of them.

Police have defended their actions, explaining that the officers had a “duty to act where necessary before causing further injury.” A statement added that taking such measures is never an “easy decision.”
