He became a free agent after the 2023 World Series after being placed on indefinite administrative leave by MLB following his arrest. Urias spent the first eight years of his career with the Dodgers.

The leave was imposed under baseball’s joint policy on domestic violence, sexual abuse and child abuse with the players’ association and could be the first step toward suspension. Players will be paid but will not be able to play during the leave.

Even without a criminal conviction, MLB can suspend the left-handed player if he is found to have violated policy.

Urias was also arrested in May 2019 on suspicion of domestic violence. He was suspended by MLB for 20 games, but was not prosecuted by the L.A. city attorney on the condition that he complete a 52-week domestic violence program. No player has been suspended twice under MLB’s domestic violence policy.
