Shocking before and after footage reveals charred remains of sun loungers at luxury five-star resort in Rhodes after it was ravaged by wildfires that forced guests to run for their lives

Shocking before and after images have revealed the charred remains of poolside loungers and parasols at a luxury five-star resort and spa in Rhodes, which was ravaged by wildfires.

Lindos Imperial Resort and Spa, in the village of Kiotari, was one of the hotels evacuated as wildfires swept across the Greek island. A video shared on TikTok showed the resort’s scorched pool area.

The clip first spins to let families relax on lounge chairs while children play happily in the pool.

But the images switch to the pool after the evacuation. The devastating scenes show what’s left of destroyed deckchairs, with most of what was in the first clip completely burned. The ground is covered with ash.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Lindos Imperial said it is “temporarily out of service until further notice” due to the ongoing bushfires.

Yesterday a woman who stayed at the hotel wrote on Facebook: ‘For anyone wondering, staying at Lindos Imperial and everyone was evacuated yesterday.

“No further information, but everyone had to leave without their belongings and was taken to other locations.

‘Many still without a bed in a sports hall in Faliraki. (Footage captured by my sister being taken on a boat away from the hotel).”

A few hours later, she responded to an update on the situation, adding, “Update. They let us go today to pick up stuff and the surrounding areas are burned and there is a lot of ash everywhere. Beach burnt.’

She went on to say that the hotel itself appeared “unscathed,” adding that the resort had informed her that the building was not on fire.

In its statement, the hotel said those who have personal belongings at the property can collect them. However, it added that transfers cannot be provided there.

“The safety and well-being of our guests and employees is our top priority and we have taken this precaution to ensure everyone’s safety,” the statement said.

“We want to emphasize that we are in constant dialogue with local authorities and are closely monitoring the situation. Rest assured, we are taking all necessary measures to handle the situation responsibly and ensure a safe environment for everyone.

During this challenging time, we express our deepest gratitude for your understanding and support. If you have any concerns or need further assistance, do not hesitate to contact our team.

“We will keep you updated on any updates on the status of Lindos Imperial and look forward to welcoming you back once the situation has been resolved.”

Mrs Hughes, 35, and her husband Jon had paid £3,600 for a 10-night stay at Lindos Imperial in Kiotari but were forced to leave their belongings behind and evacuate the hotel which later burned down.

“We tried to keep ourselves together, but Emilia saw it wasn’t right. She felt it,’ Mrs Hughes recalled The sun.

“She’s said a few times, ‘Are we going to die?’ That’s something I won’t forget for a long time. “I haven’t stopped crying since we got home.”

Thousands of Britons from Rhodes started today as bushfires on the fire-ravaged Greek island spiral out of control and more evacuations are called for. The crisis is being triggered by Europe’s 40C-plus Cerberus heat wave.

Holidaymakers have described the ‘living nightmare’ of being awakened by air raid sirens and being forced to run into the sea as fires raged through forests and hills above their hotels, likening it to a ‘disaster movie’.

One woman who tried to seek help for her daughter said, “My daughter Kell, her husband and two young children along with another family of four had to run for their lives for the Princess Andriana Resort & Spa.

“They walked for miles to escape and no one but the locals gave them water to drink.”

“We are in the seventh day of the fire and it is not yet under control,” Rhodes deputy mayor Konstantinos Taraslias told state broadcaster ERT. “This is very stressful for us as it could affect other areas that are safe and functioning normally.

‘The tourists cannot know where the forest fires are on Rhodes. Even the Greeks can’t really understand where the forest fires are on the island’.
