Shocked Mom Sees Poisonous Snake In Her Daughter’s Shoe – Would YOU Have Seen It?

  • Kym Beechey, from Jilliby, was on her porch when she got a surprise

This is the shocking moment when an Australian mother discovers a venomous snake hidden in her daughter’s shoe.

Kym Beechey, from Jilliby, New South Wales, was retrieving a lunch box that had been left outside when she got a surprise.

There, with its head sticking out of one of her daughter’s shoes, sat a red-bellied black snake—a species notorious for its painful bite.

She said, “I went out to the porch to pick up an abandoned lunch box that was in danger of becoming the subject of a science experiment.

“I bent down to pick up the lone lunch box and almost headbutted my snake friend, so even though I was wearing a shoe, it was my face that was in the greatest danger.

“He was nestled, curled up in the shoe.

“The shoe it came in is actually my daughter’s mountain bike shoe and she was really happy I found it and not her!”

Kym, 56, recognized the danger right away.

She said, “I was pretty sure it was a red-bellied black snake like we’ve had them here before.

“When I was giving birth to my first child, there was even one in the house — and when I brought my child home from the hospital, one was in our bedroom.

“We know they could be around so we’re careful, but it’s always a surprise to find them so close to you. In this case, so close to my face.’

The bite of the red-bellied black snake is characterized by severe pain, which causes swelling, prolonged bleeding, and local necrosis or skin death, sometimes leading to amputation.

The venom of the red-bellied black snake contains neurotoxins, myotoxins and coagulants and has hemolytic properties.

The symptoms are nausea, vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea or excessive sweating.

But it has caused no recorded deaths down under and Mrs Beechey knew it was unlikely to attack.

She said: ‘As you may have read, the species is capable of causing a dangerous venomous bite. I am aware of that, but also know that they are rarely aggressive.

“When I find them, I like to watch and wait for them to move on — and this one moved on.

“I was more concerned about my silly dog getting bit than I was.”

As for why the shoes were outside in the first place, Kym said, “Eight adults live in our house on a semi-rural lot.

‘Four are top athletes and have many pairs of training shoes, work shoes and outdoor shoes.

“Since we’ve had rain lately, we’re all staying outside.”
