Shock twist in NRL racism scandal after Spencer Leniu ‘was the victim of a derogatory remark’ moments before he aimed vile ‘monkey’ slur at Ezra Mam

  • The alleged comment came before he made his “monkey” slur
  • Leniu will not ‘betray’ the alleged perpetrator

Spencer Leniu reportedly received derogatory comments during last week’s match in Las Vegas.

But he has chosen to keep the nature of the comment, and the person who allegedly said it, secret.

The football world has been in shock since Brisbane Broncos star Ezra Mam accused Rooster’s rival Leniu of calling him a ‘monkey’ during their match at Allegiant Stadium last week.

Leniu will appear before the NRL Tribunal this week to learn his fate after pleading guilty to the charge.

According to News Corp, Leniu first received a derogatory comment from a Broncos player before directing his slur at Mom.

However, he will not ‘betray’ the alleged perpetrator.

“He grew up on the streets of Mount Druitt and they have this thing where you don’t just snitch on anyone and you don’t bother anyone,” Phil Rothfield told Fox League.

Elsewhere, Mom reportedly turned down the opportunity for a personal apology from Leniu last week.

The Courtier Mail reported that Leniu offered to pay for his own flight to Brisbane to meet the young gun.

The Roosters had been discussing plans for a formal meeting. Mom’s mother was also aware of Leniu’s offer. She is an Indigenous elder and played a key role in the Deadly Choices program in Queensland.

The man, who was said to be in tears after the match, remains angry about the incident and refuses the olive branch.

He had been prepared to testify against Leniu before the Roosters star pleaded guilty on Thursday.
