Shock twist in death of Married At First Sight groom as his criminal past is revealed: ‘It should have been a red flag’

Now it has been revealed how Married At First Sight New Zealand star Andrew Jury spent the final days before his tragic death at the age of 33.

The builder, who was one of the original grooms in the first season of the reality TV giant’s New Zealand format, was jailed just hours before his death last Thursday, the release said. New Zealand Herald.

Jury’s father Roy told the publication that his son was in custody at the Mt Eden Corrections Facility at the time and died just hours before a scheduled court appearance.

The Herald revealed that the jury at the time ‘faced active charges including assault with intent to injure, malicious damage and possession of an offensive weapon’.

They also reported that Roy Jury had “concerns about his son’s mental state” prior to the hearing and that he was “struggling” in jail following his April 2 arrest.

“It should have been a warning sign when Andy stopped communicating with family and friends.”

Mount Eden Prison General Manager Dion Paki confirmed Jury’s death on the morning of June 27, despite the efforts of medical and emergency personnel to save him.

Andrew was only 26 years old when he made his MAFS appearance in 2017.

His co-stars Brett and Angel Renall and Benjamin Blackwell announced the reality TV star’s shocking death in a joint statement this weekend.

“It is with the deepest hearts that we come together to acknowledge the passing of Andrew Jury,” it said.

“We had the absolute pleasure of filming and participating in a show that will keep us closely linked for a lifetime.

“Despite his struggles, Andrew was always kind and the life of the party during our shared experience, and he greatly valued his time on the show.”

After his appearance on MAFS, Andrew kept a low profile and rarely shared details about his life on his Instagram page.

His last photo was posted to his grid on May 28, 2023, on the occasion of his 32nd birthday.

He shared a selfie and wrote: ‘Haven’t posted since last year, updated pic of me, 32 aren’t that bad people #roastme.’

This comes after Warner Bros. Discovery, which broadcasts MAFS in New Zealand, announced that they have put in place welfare protocols as concerns grow about the wellbeing of all MAFS stars.

“WBD takes the duty of care very seriously and has established protocols regarding the well-being of cast and crew,” said a company spokesperson.

‘All MAFS NZ staff have access to mental health professionals throughout the process, including pre-screening, during production and post-broadcast.’

While Brett, Angel Renall and Benjamin Blackwell announced Jury’s death last weekend, they offered their condolences to his family.

“At this time, our entire cast would like to send our deepest condolences and love to his family – Ben, Angel, Brett, Vicky, Haydn, Lacey, Claire, Dom, Aaron, Luke, Belinda,” they wrote in their statement.
