- A Patient Approach to Her ACL Injury
- Star injured her knee in January
Footballer Sam Kerr has made the surprising admission that her knee injury is ‘not her only problem’ and she won’t say when she will finally be back on the pitch.
It comes after Kerr, 31, previously said she did not want to rush her rehabilitation as she plans to continue playing for “many years to come”.
“I’m progressing slowly… so it’s going to take a bit longer than I’d like because I’m quite impatient,” Kerr recently said on the BBC’s Women’s Football Weekly podcast.
“But I feel good, I feel strong, I feel healthy and my mind feels good, so I’m in a good place.”
She also suggested that there was “something more going on than just the ACL,” but did not elaborate.
This comes after Kerr denied all speculation about X’s return in early September.
Respond to a tweet from Chelsea women’s content creator Rosie Dawson that the goalscorer would play again in October, Kerr’s response was succinct: ‘I don’t know who gave you this information but unfortunately it is incorrect.’
The Matildas captain suffered an ACL injury during a training camp in Morocco in January and watched Chelsea’s dramatic victory over the Women’s Super League title.

Kerr (pictured left with her fiancée Kristie Mewis) could face jail time or deportation if she is found guilty at trial in February.
Kerr also missed the Paris Olympics due to her knee injury. But there is better news: once she puts on her boots again, she will score a remarkable 100 goals as a Chelsea player.
“I’m lucky, this will be my first goal,” she said.
‘It’s going to be such a great moment, scoring 100 goals for Chelsea will be a big achievement for me. I’m excited.’
In addition to football, Kerr faces a four-day criminal trial next February.
She was charged with racially aggravated harassment of a police officer and will plead not guilty.
It stems from an alleged incident after a night out with heavy drinking in January 2023, just months before the Women’s World Cup on home soil.
If Kerr is convicted, the Matildas skipper faces a maximum prison sentence of two years, and in the worst case scenario, could even be deported from the UK.
