Shock moment Ohio State fans launch trash on field as controversial call sparks explosive meltdown from coach

Ohio State fans resorted to throwing trash on the field Saturday after a controversial call during their game against Nebraska.

With Nebraska pulling within 21-17 late in the fourth quarter, the Buckeyes’ Arvell Reese was flagged for targeting after a hit on Jahmal Banks that broke up a pass.

And after the call was upheld following a review — resulting in a 15-yard penalty and Banks being ejected — both the Ohio State fans and their coach, Ryan Day, lost their cool.

Several plastic water bottles were launched onto the field, briefly delaying the game and giving Ohio State a sideline warning.

Meanwhile, an irate Day smashed his headphones on the ground and shouted at the officials after the decision.

Fox Sports rules analyst Mike Pereira even added Die Day was fortunate that he himself was not punished for his reaction on the field to the goal-directed call.

Nevertheless, Ohio State would win despite losing Reese.

Five plays later, Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola was picked off on 3rd and 19, and Ohio State was able to run out the clock from there for a narrow win.

The Buckeyes are now 6-1 on the season, with their only loss coming at Oregon, now the No. 1 team in the country.

Saturday wasn’t the first time this season that college football fans threw trash on the field.

Last weekend, Texas Longhorns fans did the same during their team’s loss to Georgia — a move decried by actor Matthew McConaughey.

“We are better than that,” the big Texas fan wrote on X. “Longhorn Nation knows how to show up, show up like no other and still maintain our class. So in the future, let’s clean up that BS and put it behind us for good.”
