Matt Shirvington returned to Sunrise on Wednesday, just days after viewers began to question the new presenter’s lengthy absence from the breakfast programme.
The show returned to regular programming last Monday, with co-host Natalie Barr on the desk alongside news anchor Edwina Bartholomew and sportscaster Mark Beretta, but Shirvo was noticeably absent.
Shirvo, 45, explained that he had been enjoying an extended break with his wife Jessica and their children.
‘It’s so good to be back. It was a great holiday, just so nice to kick back and relax,” he told viewers.
“I didn’t do much but I went to the Gold Coast, it was raining so I spent a lot of time in the hotel room with the family which was nice and how good the sleeping arrangements are.”

Shirvo was absent from the show and Matt Doran filled in for the former Olympic athlete.
Fans of the show took to social media to question Shirvo’s return on Tuesday.
“Where was Shirvo?” asked one viewer, while another similarly wrote: “Did I miss something?” Where’s Shirvo!!’
Meanwhile, some fans were happy to see a new face in Shirvo’s place, with many suggesting Matt Doran would take his place for good.
“Great to see Matt Doran back on the station,” said one.
“Please keep Matt on during the week. Like a breath of fresh air,” another added.

One user wrote: ‘Shirvo is a nice guy but Matt is a much better presenter. More spontaneous, more articulate and a great interview and reporter!’
In November, Shivo’s shocking career move was revealed on Channel Seven.
The television host has filmed scenes for a guest role on the long-running drama Home and Away.
Details about Shirvington’s appearance on the show have been kept under wraps, but 7News reports that the celebrity will “play himself” on the hit soap.
