MacLaine, who has appeared in films such as Steel Magnolias, Postcards from the Edge and The Turning Point, celebrated her 90th birthday earlier this year.
MacLaine, the older sister of fellow show business icon Warren Beatty, told People that she was grateful that she “could continue to work,” and that she “had my friends and was very healthy.”
MaClaine is preparing to release a new book this fall called The Wall of Life, a collection of over 150 photographs and stories.
“I’ve had a wonderful life and I wanted to share that,” MacLaine said of the project, which is set to be released Oct. 22. “All the photos brought back such beautiful memories.”
MaClaine told the outlet she was inspired to put together a book after hanging a collage of images on a wall in her Malibu home more than four decades ago.
“About 45 years ago, I hung a dozen framed photographs of friends, family, and people I worked with, all grouped together on a living room wall,” MacLaine told the outlet. “Everyone who came over loved looking at this montage, and thus The Wall of Life was born.
‘I’m pleased to share a selection of these photographs – and some of the stories behind them – in this book.’
Topics covered in the book include growing up with Beatty, developing her skills on Broadway, parenthood, and her experiences with late celebrities like Frank Sinatra and Bette Davis.

In the interview, MacLaine indicated that she owes the lessons she has learned in her life to more than six decades of dancing.
“I started my dance training at age 3 and stopped around age 67,” MacLaine said. “It taught me discipline, a love of music, working with people and dealing with pain.”
MacLaine won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in 1983’s Terms of Endearment.
She had previously been nominated five times: for 1977’s The Turning Point, 1975’s The Other Half of the Sky: A China Memoir, 1963’s Irma la Douce, 1960’s The Apartment and 1958’s Some Came Running.
