Q My neck is really wrinkled and I’m very self-conscious about it. What’s the best treatment for it?

a ‘The neck is a challenge, especially if there is significant loose skin due to sun exposure, smoking or old age,’ says plastic surgeon and cosmetic doctor Dr Apul Parikh (apul parikh.co.uk).

Without seeing you, he says, it’s hard to recommend a plan, but there are things that will really help if you’re willing to take a multifaceted approach.

‘Injectable skin boosters like Profhilo (he charges £800 for two sessions) will help hydrate and soften the fine lines and folds to some extent,’ he says.

‘Botox (£250) in the neck minimizes the platysma bands [those vertical strips of muscle that become more prominent with age to form a “turkey wattle”] and can give a gentle lift.

“And microneedling with growth factors (£2,000 for a five-session course; expect to be bright red for a day after each session) will significantly improve skin texture, plumpness and even skin tone, as well as slightly firming it up.”

Neck lift surgery may be an option ‘but is normally done in conjunction with a face lift to get good results, with prices ranging from £20,000 to £50,000’.
