Shhhh! Anti-agers, no one but you needs to know: How do I get rid of my unsightly varicose veins?
Q I have developed two nasty looking varicose veins on my legs. Can something non-invasive get rid of them in time for summer?
a i will not lie; the body takes up to a year to remove treated varicose veins.
But a procedure called VenaSeal is more convenient and less painful than others.
A minimally invasive surgical technique, it essentially glues veins closed, provided they are not very superficial, in which case the consultant will suggest an alternative treatment.
“After local anesthesia, we make a small incision and insert a catheter into the vein,” says vascular surgeon Tahir Hussain.

Beauty expert Inge (pictured) recommends a procedure called VenaSeal for the treatment of varicose veins, which is more convenient and less painful than other methods
“It’s pushed toward the groin while spreading a sticky “glue” at multiple points.” This seals and ‘kills’ the vein. There may be inflammation and discomfort for up to two weeks afterward, but most patients “definitely skip the clinic,” says Hussain.
He says the main benefits of VenaSeal are that only one injection is needed to insert the catheter.
You also don’t have to wear pressure stockings afterwards, but you just have to keep the place dry.
Expect to pay from £2,000 at the Private Clinic nationwide (theprivateclinic.co.uk); Nuffield Health (0300 123 6200) also offers the treatment.
