She’s best known for playing a ditzy but fearless flight attendant in a 1980 cult comedy film – can you guess who it is?

Her breakthrough role in 1980 in what is considered one of the funniest parody films of all time helped launch her career as a beloved comedic actress in the ’80s and ’90s.

In the cult classic, starring Robert Hays, she shows off her acting skills and impeccable comedic timing as the naive but fearless flight attendant Elaine Dickinson, a role she would reprise in the sequel two years later following the film’s success.

From then on, her unique, offbeat charm would continue to captivate audiences through her portrayal of quirky, endearing characters in subsequent comedy films such as 1985’s Lost in America and What about Bob? in 1991.

Nowadays, the veteran actress mainly appears in smaller roles in television series and films.

However, her supporting role in the 2019 drama Marriage Story was powerful enough to earn critical acclaim that year.

The Hollywood married has kept a low profile in recent years, but was spotted making a rare public appearance this week. Can you guess who she is?

She landed her first film role in the 1979 musical drama film All That Jazz, but her role was cut from the final cut.

Speak with Closer to weekly in 2019, she revealed that she was living in a small apartment with a friend and doing odd jobs to make ends meet while she waited for the release of Airplane.

“I came back to New York and babysat for money until the movie came out,” she said.

“I went up to the opening on some crutches because the baby broke a glass and I stepped on it and there were stitches on my foot.”

Hagerty is best known for her comedic timing and portrayal of quirky characters, but received critical acclaim for her supporting role in the 2019 drama Marriage Story.

‘We shared the apartment illegally because the rent was so low, but if the sink broke we had to wash the dishes in the bath! So you’re in a big movie and then you’re in this one, but it keeps everything in really good perspective.”

Hagerty has been married twice and has been with her second husband Richard Kagan since 1999. They have no children.
