Thomas Brostrom, head of sustainable generation at Shell, is leaving the company weeks after CEO Wael Sawan scaled back the company’s green transition plans.

Brostrom joined Shell from offshore wind giant Orsted in August 2021, when former CEO Ben van Beurden moved to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In February 2022, he quickly became head of renewable energy.

But Sawan, who took over the top job in January, announced on June 14 to return to oil and gas production and scale back investments in renewables after investors pressured the company to focus on the most profitable companies.

“Thomas Brostrøm has chosen to leave Shell to pursue an outside opportunity,” the company said.
